Crocus tommasinianus, commonly known as Tommasini’s crocus or the early crocus, is a small bulbous wildflower native to the Balkans. It is recognized by its slender, goblet-shaped flowers in pale lilac to soft purple, often with a silvery sheen on the outer petals. The species is named after the 19th-century botanist Muzio Tommasini, who studied the flora of the Adriatic region. Unlike many other crocuses, Crocus tommasinianus spreads readily by seed, allowing it to form natural-looking drifts that appear very early in the year, often when winter has only just begun to fade.
