Phyteuma orbiculare, commonly known as round-headed rampion, is a perennial wildflower native to Europe. It is distinguished by its unusual spherical flower heads composed of tightly packed blue-violet flowers, which gradually unfurl into slender, star-like petals. The species name orbiculare refers to this rounded flower shape. Unlike most bellflower relatives, which bear open, bell-shaped blooms, Phyteuma orbiculare has a dense, tufted inflorescence that gives it a striking and almost otherworldly appearance. In alpine meadows and limestone grasslands, its distinctive flower heads make it one of the most recognizable members of the bellflower family.
