Paradisea liliastrum, commonly known as St. Bruno’s lily, is a graceful perennial wildflower native to the mountains of southern and central Europe. It is recognized by its elegant spikes of pure white, trumpet-shaped flowers that resemble miniature lilies and are often sweetly scented. The genus name Paradisea honors the Italian naturalist Giovanni Paradisi, while the common name links the plant to Saint Bruno, whose followers were associated with alpine regions where the species occurs. Unlike many mountain flowers, St. Bruno’s lily combines a striking appearance with a preference for open, species-rich meadows, where its luminous white blooms stand out against the surrounding grassland.
