Trollius europaeus, commonly known as globeflower, is a perennial wildflower native to Europe. It is distinguished by its almost spherical, golden-yellow flowers, whose petals form a closed, globe-like shape unlike most open meadow blooms. The name Trollius is thought to derive from Germanic folklore, linking the plant to trolls or magical mountain beings. Unlike many buttercup relatives, its flowers are only partially open, creating a sheltered structure that favors specific pollinators and gives the plant its uniquely compact, lantern-like appearance.
