Bugle

Ajuga reptans, commonly known as bugle or common bugle, is a low-growing perennial wildflower native to Europe. It is recognized by its creeping runners, which allow it to spread quickly, and by its dense spikes of deep blue to violet flowers that bloom in spring. The name reptans means “creeping,” directly referring to this growth habit. Historically, Ajuga reptans was used in folk medicine for wound healing and bleeding, giving rise to the name “bugle,” derived from an old term for throat or wound remedies. Its ability to form living carpets made it a familiar plant in medieval woodland clearings and pastures.
