Woundwort
Solidago virgaurea, commonly known as European goldenrod, is a perennial wildflower native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is characterized by its upright stems topped with clusters of small, golden-yellow flower heads that bloom from late summer to early autumn. The name virgaurea means “golden rod” in Latin, referring to its slender, glowing flower spikes. Unlike many related species, it grows naturally in upland meadows, forest clearings, and rocky slopes. Traditionally valued in herbal medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties, Solidago virgaurea remains an important late-season nectar source for bees and butterflies.
