Chrysosplenium alternifolium, commonly known as alternate-leaved golden-saxifrage, is a small perennial wildflower native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is recognized by its rounded leaves arranged alternately along creeping stems and by its bright yellow-green flower clusters that appear in early spring. The genus name Chrysosplenium means “golden spleen,” reflecting an old medicinal belief that the plant could treat spleen disorders. Unlike many woodland flowers, its blooms lack true petals; instead, colorful leaf-like bracts provide the plant’s vivid appearance along shaded streams and damp forest floors.
