Paris quadrifolia, commonly known as herb Paris or true lover’s knot, is a perennial wildflower native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is easily recognized by its symmetrical whorl of four broad leaves topped by a single, star-like flower with greenish petals and a dark central berry. The name “quadrifolia” refers to its characteristic four leaves, a feature that gives the plant its folkloric association with balance and unity. Unlike most woodland herbs, Paris quadrifolia is slow-growing and prefers undisturbed, shaded forests, where it adds to the quiet diversity of ancient woodland ecosystems.
